Yin/Yang

This work presages Kyle Yip’s somatic transition into dream-borne practice by foregrounding a formal language that would later recur, unbidden, within the architecture of sleep. Emerging initially through an unpremeditated stream-of-consciousness approach, the composition navigates a dialectical terrain of masculine and feminine semiotics, juxtaposing figurative polarity with chiaroscuro fields of light and shadow. The result is a visual schema that does not represent a yin-yang form so much as it intimates its silhouette—an asymmetrical symmetry that gestures toward non-dualistic consciousness. The relational tension between binaries—gendered, tonal, and psychic—is neither reconciled nor hierarchized; rather, it is suspended in a state of dynamic equipoise. Retrospectively absorbed into the dream corpus after appearing in a subsequent vision, the work assumes a paradoxical position: both prototype and projection, both precursor and artifact. In its current evolution, the piece abandons its former automatism in favour of calibrated intentionality, thereby marking a fulcrum between unconscious generation and formal articulation—a shift mirrored across the series as a whole, wherein compositional dualities become meditative instruments for interrogating the constructed boundaries of identity, perception, and form.
